Tutorials - Tango FTP Basics

About FTP
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is a standard Internet protocol like HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), which transfers displayable Web pages and related files, and SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), which transfers e-mail. FTP is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet and is most commonly used to update and maintain websites.

About Tango FTP
Tango FTP was built with the end user in mind. Every aspect of the interface was designed to be as intuitive as possible, so when you are using the program you will notice that the functionality and navigation is obvious. Below is a quick guide to using Tango FTP, including logging in to a server and, upload and download your files.

Tango FTP Login1. Logging in

To login to a server, you need three pieces of information:

1. An FTP address (like ftp.myserver.com)
2. A username
3. A password

The image to the right shows the Tango FTP login screen where you can enter this info and then connect to your server. For more information on the login process, click here.

2. Tango FTP Tool Bar

The Tango FTP Tool Bar has a web browser design with back, forward and refresh buttons for easy navigation, an address field that lets you know where you are, and function buttons on the right.

3. Tool Bar Function Buttons

Add New Folder Get Info Save Account settings, or add a snapshot to favorites Home Button Delete
Add new folder to "MyPC" or "Server" Get info on selected item or items Save Account settings, or add a snapshot to Favorites Left click takes you back to where you logged in, or right click takes you to Springboard / Root Delete selected item or items

4. Uploading & Downloading

Tango FTP is setup with your local "My PC" files on the left, and the "Server" files on the right. To upload or download, select items on either side and click the upload/download arrow button in the middle of the screen - or simply Drag 'n' Drop the items from one side to the other.
